Lost an entire note unexpectedly

It's not in Archive, it's not in Trash…
Since August 3 I have been adding at least weekly to a note about one of my employees. Last night I went to prepare the daily note for today, and attempted to type in a link to her note, it would not appear in the autocomplete. It seems to be gone. Now what?
I finished typing the link and clicked it, which was probably a mistake. Now there's a new empty note.
So, how do I find and use the backup?

I followed the directions in step two on https://help.noteplan.co/article/131-i-lost-some-notes-folders-how-to-restore#:~:text=If%20you%20have%20accidentally%20deleted,under%20the%20section%20%22Files%22.&text=NotePlan%20has%20an%20internal%20Trash,Mac's%20Trash%20folder%20as%20well. and did not find the original file. Now what?
I did not change the sync method, did not knowingly delete the file, and use CloudKit.

I found the note in Recently Deleted on another device and was able to recover the lost content. I basically never do anything on that device, though, so HOW the note became deleted remains a mystery.
